Angela Tucker founded the Adoptee Mentoring Society to fill a deeply personal gap—one she knew all too well as a transracial adoptee. After her documentary, Closure, touched hearts across the country, she was flooded with messages from adoptees and adoptive parents yearning for guidance on identity, race, and belonging. What began as casual conversations turned into a lifeline. In each story Angela heard, a pattern emerged: so many adoptees were navigating their journeys alone, without safe or affirming spaces to make sense of their experiences. The Adoptee Mentoring Society was born from that need.

Our Values

  • A raised fist surrounded by rays, symbolizing solidarity and strength.

    Adoptee Empowerment

We center the adoptees by practicing ethical storytelling, respecting individual perspectives and honoring the collective experiences of adoptees.

  • Colorful circular logo with chevron arrows, featuring rainbow stripes on a red background.

    Inclusive & Intersectional Community

We cultivate a safe environment where adoptees from all backgrounds and identities (i.e. race, class, gender, and age), can contribute. We do not allow hate speech or any language that perpetuates harm, discrimination, or exclusion to go unaddressed.

  • A teacup with a tea bag inside on a saucer, with steam rising from the hot tea.

    Healing-Centered Community

There is a unique bond that happens when adoptees connect with other adoptees. We gain the ability to reshape our narrative by owning our actions, feelings, and thoughts related to adoption. Together, we elevate and nurture the overall wellbeing of our community.
