Want to volunteer with us?

We are always grateful for people who want to support the Adoptee Mentoring Society’s mission of connection, belonging, and identity-affirming care for adoptees. Our volunteers play a meaningful role in shaping programs that are adoptee-centered, trauma-informed, and grounded in lived experience. Whether you are an adoptee yourself or an ally to the community, there are several ways to get involved.

Current openings:

  • If you are an adult adoptee who feels called to lead, connect, and advocate, becoming an AMS Ambassador may be the right fit.

As an AMS Ambassador, you help drive the organization’s growth and impact. Ambassadors are changemakers who take initiative and design their own creative strategies to amplify AMS’s mission. This may include hosting local gatherings, sharing stories online, leading fundraising efforts, or building partnerships in your community.

Ambassadors collaborate closely with AMS staff and fellow Ambassadors to build momentum, strengthen relationships, and bring fresh energy to our growing network.

    Benefits of Being an Ambassador

    • Complimentary Adoptee Lounge Access
One free Adoptee Lounge session each month during your ambassadorship.

    • AMS Merch
Exclusive AMS merchandise to support your outreach and proudly represent the organization.

    • Community-Building
Connection with a small, committed group of adoptees passionate about advocacy and mutual support.

    • Professional Development
Training and ongoing support from the AMS CFO focused on fundraising, social media, and marketing strategies.

We are seeking adoptees who lead with heart, initiative, and a genuine desire to serve their community.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • You are an adoptee, age 25 or older.

    • You have engaged with AMS services, including at least four Adoptee Lounges and/or two 1:1 mentor sessions.

    • You can commit 5–10 hours per month, including monthly check-ins with AMS staff and participation in a 30-minute monthly Ambassador meeting.

    • You have strong communication skills and are comfortable representing AMS in-person, at events, or online, with experience discussing adoption in public or community settings.

  • If you are an adoptee interested in supporting the training and development of AMS mentors, becoming a Volunteer Mentee is a meaningful way to contribute to the community.

Volunteer mentees participate in coach-led mentoring practice sessions that help mentors strengthen their skills through real, relationship-based conversations. These sessions are grounded in simulation-based learning and guided by AMS trainers to ensure a supportive, accountable learning environment.

Benefits of Being a Volunteer Mentee

    • Supportive Mentoring Experience
Engage in real mentoring conversations in a low-pressure, facilitated setting designed for learning and growth.

    • Community Impact
Play a direct role in shaping AMS mentoring programs by helping mentors learn how to show up with care, humility, and skill.

    • Flexibility
Choose whether to participate as a 1:1 mentee or as a participant in The Adoptee Lounge.

    • Guided Environment
AMS trainers lead each session, offering real-time feedback and support so you are never responsible for teaching or correcting mentors on your own.

    • Adoptee Lounge Voucher
Receive a voucher for one free Adoptee Lounge session as a thank-you for your time, presence, and care.

We are seeking adoptees who are open, reflective, and willing to support mentor learning through authentic participation.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • You are an adoptee, age 13 or older.

    • You are willing to participate in real mentoring conversations within a facilitated learning environment.

    • You understand that mentoring is relational work and that accountability and repair are part of the learning process.

    • No prior mentoring or coaching experience is required.

This role is ideal for adoptees who want to give back to their community while helping ensure AMS mentors are prepared to offer thoughtful, identity-affirming support.

  • A strong and trusting partnership between the Board of Directors and the Executive Director is essential to AMS’s success. As a Board Member, you help steward the organization’s mission, provide strategic guidance, and ensure responsible governance.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Supporting fundraising efforts and contributing an annual financial donation

    • Participating in strategic and policy decisions
