One-on-one virtual mentorship offers adoptees a space to explore their adoption story with trained mentors who listen, reframe, and provide helpful resources. These 45-minute sessions empower adoptees to shape their own narratives while discussing identity, birth family, race, gender, and more. Equally important, mentorship creates space for joy—sharing hobbies, laughter, and everyday moments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Great question. You can see all the Adoptive Parent-specific FAQ’s here and/or you can watch an Info Session we held specifically for adoptive parents HERE.
We ask that youth have their mentorship sessions in a private space, without parents present. This isn’t about excluding you—it’s about creating a safe, judgment-free environment where your child can speak openly.
Adoptees sometimes hold back their questions or feelings about adoption out of concern for how their parents might react, or because they don’t yet have the language to express themselves. Meeting privately with a mentor—who is also an adoptee—gives them the freedom to explore their identity, practice sharing their story, and gain confidence.
Your support in providing this space communicates something powerful: that you recognize adoption is a unique part of who they are, and that you trust them to benefit from connecting with someone who shares that lived experience.

An AMS mentor begins each session introductions of themselves and will then facilitate an open conversation based off any comments you wrote in the scheduling form. The mentee drives the conversation.
